Today is National Women in Sports Day honoring Female Athletes. Gwen’s mom played soccer from age 5 through college. Naturally, it was a dream to watch your own child enjoy the same sport.
Gwen’s path proved to be different following the diagnosis of a terminal neurological condition that would affect almost every aspect of her body.
But what if we told you that one of our favorite memories is when Gwen was part of a soccer team as the Team Cheerleader for Team Gwen’s Ladybugs!
The dream looked different but it was still beautiful.
On this day, we have two challenges for you:
- If you are a parent to a child with medical/special needs and wish for your child to play sports, be creative and get them involved! It is a wonderful experience for the child, parents, coaches, and fellow players!
- If you are a coach and know a family with a child with medical/special needs, please invite them to join your team. We promise you that it will be your best decision!
Thank you to Gwen’s soccer coaches for extending an invitation for Gwen to join your team- you gave us a forever memory!
